Staying Healthy for ANYTHING.

Staying Healthy

Certainly, keeping yourself healthy and protected from all types of flu strains is a priority, now more than ever. Here are some suggestions:

Good hydration with alkaline water
If you don’t have access to an alkaline water machine, be sure to eat large amounts of alkalinizing, fresh vegetables and fruits such as broccoli, carrots, sprouts, avocados and berries. Here is a site with a great list: http://athma-pure.com/alkaline.aspx

Sleep
Get at least 8.5 hours per night, every night. Sleep is often overlooked at the key to health. This is simple to do and best of all, it is free.

Vitamin D
Much has been written on the importance of adequate vitamin D for resisting viral infections. Have your blood tested for 25-OH-vitamin D. Your doctor can order it or you can order it yourself through sites such as www.directlabs.com and www.labsafe.com. Your vitamin D level should be at least 50 ng/ml. It is safe for adults to take up to 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day. With summer coming, you can get your dose of D naturally from sunshine.

Vitamin C
Humans don’t store vitamin C and under stress, much more is required. Vitamin C is important for fighting viral infections. Take in at least 2000 mg/day for overall immune health.

Vitamin A
This vitamin is one of the best supporters you can have in your cabinet. Mycel A drops given in juice are easy to take for children and adults of all ages. By taking 5,000 IU/day for 5 days is safe for everyone and will give your immune system a protective boost against all types of viral infections.

While these suggestions are not meant to be all encompassing, they are simple solutions for you and your family.

Critical Alert: The Swine Flu Pandemic – Fact or Fiction?

I suspect you have likely been alarmed by the media's coverage of the swine flu scare. It has a noticeable subplot - preparing you for draconian measures to combat a future pandemic as well as forcing you to accept the idea of mandatory vaccinations.

On April 27 Time magazine published an article which discusses how dozens died and hundreds were injured from vaccines as a result of the 1976 swine flu fiasco, when the Ford administration attempted to use the infection of soldiers at Fort Dix as a pretext for a mass vaccination of the entire country.

Despite acknowledging that the 1976 farce was an example of “how not to handle a flu outbreak,” the article still introduces the notion that officials “may soon have to consider whether to institute draconian measures to combat the disease.”.....

My Green Smoothie Recipie

I've gotten a lot of requests to post exactly whats in my green super-food smoothie i drink almost daily. While I can tend to vary up my ingredients slightly from day to day, this is essentially what it contains. Remember this smoothie is chock a block of vitamins, minerals, aminos, trace elements, polyphenols, pro-biotics, phyto-nutrients, super foods, sea vegetables, and of course greens! All of which provides you with healing and immune support, cell membrane and nerve support, Antioxidants, circulatory support, digestion, skeletal support, and i could go on....WHO KNEW an entire days worth of vegetables and fruits, in 5 mins, and in one glass. Easy.
And WHO knows, you might see a new vid soon of the recipe and me in the kitchen. ;-)

SUPER GREEN SMOOTHIE:

1 cup almond milk
1 large bag of organic spinach
2 - 3 cups of greens of your choice (kale, mustard, collard are my fave)
1 scoop of GREEN VIBRANCE (You can pick this up at any good nutrition store)
1 TBSP. flax oil
1 TSP. local raw bee pollen granules
1 TSP. stevia extract (more or less to suit taste and desired sweetness, experiment!)
1/2 cup frozen mango or papaya OR both mixed!! Woooo!
1/2 cup frozen organic berries (blueberries, raspberries and cherries are my choice)
1 medium banana
1 TBSP organic hemp protien
1 TBSP organic rice protien (Optional if you desire to add a little more protein)
additional purified (and alkaline if possible) water to add if needed.

In a large blender, add almond milk and flax oil. Blend in spinach and other greens till they're basically nothing (Greens shrink down!). Add in bee pollen, stevia, and fruit and blend, add in the Green Vibrance and protiens for a final whirl...and...
VOILA!

Pour, Drink and Prosper!!

Enjoy!

Dragon-Berry Summer InFusion!

I can't think of anything better than infusing one of my favorite fruits with strawberries and rum!
But indeed, The folks at Bacardi did just that with the launch of their new, naturally flavored rum called DragonBerry. Can you say hello to summer! So, what is it? It's a strawberry rum infused with the fresh, crisp flavor of the Dragon Fruit. (Which if you haven't tried yet, Trader Joe's has some in the dried fruit section, it's great!) Dragon Fruit grows in the arid and desert regions of the Americas being native to Mexico and Central and South America. But it can also be found in Southeastern Asia as well as in Okinawa, Hawaiʻi, Israel, northern Australia and southern China. The flesh, which is eaten raw, is mildly sweet and low in calories (yay!). I've only had the dried variety so far, so I'm anxious to get my hands on a fresh one soon! That'd surely make a nice garnish for the Dragon Bacardi and Pomegranete and Blueberry cocktail I have already made a recipe for! =)
So the health facts, (which I KNOW you're anxiously waiting for me to disclose......right you just wanna get drunk. haha) Well, you'll be happy to hear that Dragon Fruit are a good source of Vitamin C, rich in fiber and minerals, notably phosphorus and calcium, rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (good fats!), contain significant quantities of phytoalbumin antioxidants, which prevent the formation of cancer-causing free radicals, and It supposedly increases excretion of heavy metal toxins and lowers cholesterol and blood pressure. Eaten regularly, it is credited with alleviating chronic respiratory tract ailments.
Ok, I know you're thinking... This is a blog about a new alcohol. Yes, it is, BUT very rarely do i get to write about a new alcoholic beverage with an Anti-oxidant Superfruit bursting in it! I got a little excited, (understandably so). ANYHOW- Give it a go and see what you think. Remember that MODERATION is key, so please drink responsibly. (I don't want to have to call A&E to schedule an Intervention for your A**!! hehe.), and of course, enjoy the summer!!
It'll be out this May in a store near you. - JJM

YUMMSVILLE Fish Stew!

I LOVE this hearty stew served with brown rice. It really captures the essence of the Medditeranean to me. I'm checking flights to Barcelona as we speak! Enjoy! xox.

Hearty Fish Stew-

1/2 c. olive oil
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 tbsp. basil
1/2 tsp. red pepper
1/2 c. dry white wine
1 can Italian tomatoes
2 tbsp. tomato paste
8 oz. clam broth or juice
1 pkg. frozen cod fillets
1 pkg. frozen haddock
1 lb. frozen or fresh shrimp, shelled or deveined
4 tbsp. ditali or other sm. pasta
2 tbsp. finely chopped parsley
Heat oil in a heavy kettle or Dutch oven; saute garlic, basil, and red pepper until tender. Add wine; simmer about 5 minutes or until liquid is somewhat reduced. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, clam broth, and salt. Simmer, uncovered, 20 to 30 minutes to thicken sauce. Leave fish in blocks; cut into large pieces. Add fish and shrimp to sauce. Cover; simmer 10 minutes or until fish is just done (it will look opaque).
Remove fish to serving dish; keep warm. Add pasta to sauce. Cover; simmer 10 minutes longer or until pasta is tender. Pour over fish in serving dish. Garnish with chopped parsley and grated lemon. Stew maybe ladled over Italian bread or served over rice.
